There has been a little confusion about my comment in your June 15 issue of The Maui News and I would like an opportunity to explain myself. I was describing our film, "Find Your Voice," that was playing at the Maui Film Festival.
The words "cheesy . . . Saturday matinee" were quoted correctly, however there was something else I said. "It's fun and has a lot of heart."
In hindsight, I don't think I was clear with my reference to cheese and matinees. This was in no way meant to be negative. The film has taken five years to make so I'm definitely a big fan. What I was alluding to were great matinees like "The Wizard of Oz "and the "Sound of Music."
These are arguably cheesy but with depth and thought-provoking subtext. I was trying to encourage people to kick back and enjoy the entertaining romp and hopefully connect with the deeper story of family and culture.
I want to thank you for being so supportive of the Maui Film Festival and our film, "Find Your Voice." The experience in Maui has given us all (the cast and crew) a huge boost! I'm even thinking of a second film, secretly cheesy but with a lot of heart!
